There are beaches of all sorts on the island of Kos. Fine sand is usually the norm but you will get the odd pebble beach here and there. On the Northern part of the island (Kos Town, Mastichari Area, Kohilari beach) the sea is often rough and most people (with the exception of the surfers) will favor the calmer southern coast. A number of beaches are popular and often overcrowded, but there are quite a few, more secluded options, for those who are willing to put in the effort to get there. Most beaches are organized and you will find plenty of sun beds and umbrellas.
