🏞️ Hiking to the Summit of Mount Psoriaris 🏞️
One of my absolute favorite walks on Kos is the hike to the top of Mount Psoriaris. It’s a relatively short trek, taking roughly 20 minutes, with just a few tricky spots along the way.
📍 How to Start:
Begin at the entrance to the Old Pyli site. Facing away from the sea, look for the trail to the right of the stream. While there used to be a sign marking the trailhead, it seems to have disappeared, so keep an eye out for the pathway that starts near the stream.
🌟 At the Summit:
Once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with a vast plateau offering breathtaking views over the Koan plains. From here, you can admire much of the island’s beauty, making the hike well worth the effort. Mount Psoriaris also towers over the Old Pyli Castle and settlement, giving you incredible views of the ruins of this medieval gem and its fortifications.
🪑 Take a Break:
The trail is equipped with plenty of benches, so you can rest, enjoy a snack, and soak in the scenery. Waste bins are also provided, helping to keep this beautiful area clean and tidy.
🐐 Wildlife Encounters:
The area is teeming with life! Don’t be surprised if you run into curious stray goats, tortoises, or even the occasional lizard darting across your path. You’ll also come across fascinating small caves and unique rock formations along the way.
🎥 To Make Things Easier:
I’ve added a video of a hike to the top of Mount Psoriaris, starting from the Old Pyli site. It’s the perfect guide to help you plan your visit and enjoy the journey to the fullest.
This hike is a perfect blend of nature, history, and stunning vistas. If you’re looking for a rewarding yet undemanding adventure, Mount Psoriaris should be on your list!
