🌄 Hiking from Kardamena to Antimachia Castle 🌄
Exploring the historic Castle of Antimachia has never been easier! Thanks to a newly paved road, much of the journey is now accessible, making this adventure a must-do for both locals and visitors.
📍 How to Get There:
I’ve pinned the starting point in Kardamena on the map included in this post to help you get started. As you head up from Kardamena, look to your right – you’ll spot the beginning of the paved road marked by a large sign detailing the EU-funded project (it’s hard to miss!).
🚶♂️ On Foot?
You can also take a shortcut if you’re hiking. Don’t hesitate to ask locals for directions – they’ll be happy to help.
💪 The Climb:
Be prepared for a steep ascent. While it’s a bit of a workout going up, the way back down is much easier! The hike from Kardamena to the castle via the paved road takes around 30 minutes, with an additional 15 minutes to walk from the taxi stand to the road.
🌟 What to Expect:
The breathtaking views along the way are worth every step! As you approach, the fortress comes into view, allowing you to truly appreciate its strategic location and natural defenses. Historically, this trail (or what is now the road) served as an escape route for Kardamena residents seeking refuge in the castle during pirate and Turkish raids.
💧 Pro Tips:
- Bring plenty of water; there’s none available at the castle.
- Take your time and soak in the stunning surroundings.
