Hiking from Kardamaina to the Castle of Antimachia has become a relatively easy task as there is a newly paved road that leads you most of the way. To get to it you can have a look at the map included in this post where I have pinned the starting point in Kardamena. Coming up from Kardamena, on your right hand side you will notice the beginning of the road (there is a big sign with all the details of the project which was financed by the EU – it’s actually difficult to miss). You can of course also take a shortcut if you are on foot, I am sure the locals would be happy to give you instructions on how to get there. The climb is quite arduous as the road is relatively steep, but then again that makes coming back down a lot easier. The view is spectacular and you can also admire the fortress as you come closer and closer to it, and comprehend its strategic positioning in the area and the significance of natural protection. The actual road or what used to be a trail always used to exist as it was used by inhabitants of Kardamaina to seek refuge in the castle of Antimachia from pirate and Turkish raids. Hiking from Kardamaina to the Castle of Antimachia will take you roughly half an hour once you are on the paved road. You should count on another fifteen minutes or so from the taxi stand to the paved road. Take plenty of water with you as you wont find any at the Antimachia Castle.
