Discover Hatzinikolaou Winery on Kos
Hatzinikolaou Winery, nestled on the island of Kos, carries with it a legacy of passion, dedication, and a commitment to preserving a unique piece of Greek winemaking history. Founded by Anthony Hatzinikolaou (Tony Stevens), an Australian immigrant, the winery’s story began as a hobby but transformed into a passion-driven project when he discovered the almost-extinct ancient grape variety known as “Black Lady” or Mavrothyliko. Determined to protect this rare vine, Tony dreamt of creating his own winery where this special grape could thrive.
Tragically, Tony passed away before he could see his dream fulfilled, but his family continued his legacy. Today, Hatzinikolaou Winery flourishes, producing exceptional wines through a blend of traditional and innovative winemaking methods. The winery is known for its quality wines at affordable prices, and visitors can enjoy complimentary tastings. The winery offers a wide range of wines, available for purchase at supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, and through their online shop.
The winery is a family affair, with Tony’s son, Steve Jaqvaar, and his wife, Petronela Ticu, carrying on his dream. Steve, a rock singer by trade, took on the challenge of winemaking, constantly learning and evolving his skills, while Petronela, a former nurse and farmer, ensures the vineyard thrives.
Hatzinikolaou Winery is more than just a winery; it’s a tribute to a father’s dream and the family that continues to grow it. With a personal touch, visitors can explore the wines born from love and tradition, making it a must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts on Kos.
